stunning.
if there's one thing that deserves applause, it's the visual achievements of "sleepy hollow." the director of photography (emmanuel lubezki) delivers an impeccable, nearly perfect job, turning every scene into a true work of art. the dark and meticulously crafted setting (rick heinrichs, peter young) is not only worthy of recognition but feels deserving of awards (in fact, it won one). all of this carries the unmistakable mark of tim burton, whose dark and eccentric personality permeates every corner of the film. it's not just an aesthetic stamp: it's a world in itself, coherent and fascinating, that draws you in from start to finish.
the story is written, directed, and narrated with mastery. it's one of those plots that, because of its richness in dialogue and detail, could be confusing if you don't pay attention, but it can be followed easily once you catch the main thread. burton manages to balance mystery, horror, and his characteristic dark humor. i haven’t read the novel on which it’s based, so i can’t assess its faithfulness; my evaluation focuses solely on the film as an independent work.
johnny depp, as the lead, brings unparalleled charisma. his presence on screen elevates the film from an already excellent 10/10 to something even greater; he's one of those actors who transform even the best story with their personality and attitude. the rest of the cast delivers as well, and while some characters don’t have extensive development —understandable, since the story mainly revolves around ichabod crane— each still contributes significantly. their evolution unfolds organically as the protagonist discovers them.
the visual effects are well executed, complementing the atmosphere without being excessive or distracting. and the ending, while unexpected in certain moments, feels entirely appropriate and satisfying, closing the story coherently.
in summary, "sleepy hollow" is an example of cinema that combines visual style, careful storytelling, and memorable performances. if you enjoy dark, atmospheric, and personality-filled films, this one does not disappoint.

asombroso.

Visually sumptuous and playfully creepy.

In between all this head-scratching nonsense, Sleepy Hollow can be fun, usually whenever the Headless Horseman shows up for swordplay that's better than anything in "The Phantom Menace."

A feast of imagery.

Hasty pacing makes for a rich and exciting movie, but not an especially spooky or spellbinding one.
25
A film with no theatrical core and no integrity in the writing, acting or storytelling.

The misty descent into a gothic aesthetic: A 3.0-star "stagnant" drift through atmospheric shadows.2011 (3.0)I watched "Sleepy Hollow" in 2011, and while it offered a "vivid" and visceral "revelation" of Tim Burton’s signature visual style, it remains a functional 3.0-star record that ultimately felt somewhat "stagnant" in its narrative depth. Coming from the iconic 1999 era, the film’s atmosphere was undeniably "raw" and immersive, capturing a high-tension sense of dread that **** the fourth wall of typical period horror with its stylish gore. However, the narrative rhythm lacked the "chewy" complexity I often find in my 5.0-star pillars, occasionally slipping into a predictable pattern of decapitations that felt more "pathetic" than truly sensational. The 95% preservation of my memory is dominated by the cold, grey color palette and the "vivid" imagery of the Headless Horseman, yet the emotional payoff felt oddly distant—unlike the "sensational" connection I experienced with "Cyrano Agency" or the rhythmic fury of "Death Proof." While it was far superior to the "1.0-star traumas" of my collection, the experience was a "vivid" but ultimately surface-level encounter that didn't leave a permanent, "raw" scar on my cinematic soul. It stands in my 2011 archive as a beautiful but hollow artifact, a "sensational" showcase of set design and cinematography that struggled to maintain a high-tension soul throughout its entire runtime.

Sleepy Hollow is out of all the Tim Burton films I have ever seen has good and bad bits but this one adds quite a bit of creativity with an urban myth that brings a twist.

A convoluted mess of a departure from the original classic story. Burton tries to direct his way out of the creative sidecars with heavy action scenes like a Schwarzenegger film. The beginning of Burton's mishandled attempts to remake classic stories. It just doesn't work.

I don't understand why some people(directors) like to spoil a perfect location+perfect cinematography+jack sparrow(I know that is not his real name) with a pathetic story **** neither a horror nor a comedy movie, its one of those fantasy ones I think(never enjoyed **** story starts off on a promising note, the location too makes you believe that you are in for a thrill and mystery ride but all your expectations come crashing down after next 20 **** a ride of disappointments where in each turn reminds you to curse yourself for wasting 2 precious hrs of your life on this **** wont enjoy this one if you are a big fan of the women in black, insidious **** know, real horror stuff, the one that would make you wet your own pants.
